About

Dr. Randall S. Fike, Ph.D.

Bio and Expertise Over his career Dr. Fike has been in leading research and development roles for corporations including:

  • Fike Analytical Technologies, LLC, where he holds two patents for thermal desorption tube packaging technology providing the first ever active cleansing storage system;
  • Prism Analytical Technologies where he established all of their core technologies for the analysis of air using GC-MS;
  • Bethlehem Steel Corporation where he developed analytical technologies to support the production of steel, and steel slags, ores, and refractories; and
  • GTE-Valenite where he established both research and production laboratory facilities corporate-wide to support the production of carbide-based powders, CVD/PVD coatings, ceramics, cermets, and investment castings.

Dr. Fike has written and implemented Statistical QC and LIM software for laboratory management and data handling/reporting. His expertise includes the fields of high temperature spectroscopy, gas-phase kinetics, Optical Emission Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-Ray Fluorescence, Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, wet chemistry, and chemical profile interpretation.

Dr. Fike received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, in 1977. He has spent the last 20 years in the research and development of air and off gas analysis systems and gas sample delivery systems and is a consultant and published contributor in the field of chemical profile interpretation. He has designed and developed gas handling and chromatography subsystems to expand and enhance the capability of thermal desorption analysis using GC-MS and has developed several commercial products utilizing thermal desorption technology.

Dr. Fike is currently the President of Fike Analytical Technologies, LLC, which specializes in the analysis of air and particulate and also serves as an independent consultant to professional IAQ investigators.

Dr. Fike is a licensed builder and is a member of the American Chemical Society, The American Industrial Hygiene Association, and Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity.
